Famous People who have Flower Tattoos

Many celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon when it comes to getting flower tattoos. Everywhere you look there is another famous person who has added a flower tattoo. These tattoos range from tasteful and flattering to simply eye catching or shocking. The locations of these tattoos are also quite interesting on some of these celebrities.

Fairuza Balk is one such celebrity. Known for her role of a scary teenaged witch in the movie “The Craft,” Fairuza sports a rather beautiful rose tattoo on the lower right side of her abdomen. The meaning of the rose in the West is similar to what the Lotus means in the East. It is a symbol of love, especially a pure love. Due to its beauty, shape, and scent, it is considered to be the ultimate floral symbol, and is still the most popular of all flower tattoo designs. The rose is requested by men nearly as often as by women. This is one of the most appealing of Fairuza’s tattoos.

Beautiful actress Halle Berry made a common mistake when she got the name of her first husband, David Justice, tattooed on her right buttock. She got the tattoo re-inked and turned David’s name into a pretty sunflower. Halle said she had chosen the sunflower because they close up to regenerate when darkness descends. It would seem that she used this symbolism when darkness fell over her marriage to David and turned that darkness into a period of personal re-growth.

Who hasn’t heard of Cher, famous singer and actress? With her many escapades throughout the years, getting a tattoo would have been one of the tamer things she has done. Of the many tattoos Cher proudly bears are a black orchid located just below her panty line and a black rose on her ankle. Roses, as discussed previously, are a symbol of pure love and passion. The orchid carries numerous messages, among them love, beauty, and wealth. The ancient Greeks felt that orchids presented virility. Victorian England viewed the meaning of orchids as symbols of luxury. While it’s hard to know just what Cher had in mind when she got those tattoos, it seems obvious that her personality and lifestyle represents both passion and luxury.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, has a few tattoos adorning her body. One of them is of cherry blossoms and Kanji on the inside of her left ankle. This pretty and tasteful tattoo has much spiritual meaning. In Japan, the cherry blossom is symbolic of life with its short, but brilliantly blooming, life span that inevitably falls. This is a powerful reminder that life is short. One should live in the present and appreciate every waking minute, for it could be your last. Other meanings ascribed to the cherry blossom are feminine beauty and sexuality, as well as prosperity and good luck.

People all over the world watched Melissa Gilbert grow up on Little House on the Prairie. She is no longer a little girl and her acting gigs have taken her into many new realms. Melissa has a tattoo of a small daisy on her ankle. The name for daisy comes from “day’s eye.” This is because the daisy opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. This flower is associated with the innocence of childhood.

Leah Headey, best known for her role in the movie “300,” proudly wears a large lotus flower tattoo on the upper part of her back. The Lotus represents rebirth but also is symbolic of all that is true, good, and beautiful. It stands for good luck, enlightenment, and peace.

There are other well known people who bear flower tattoos. American Idol winner and singer Kelly Clarkson, displays a sunflower on the inside of her right ankle. Actress and daughter of famous actor Clint Eastwood, Allison Eastwood seems rather proud of the lovely purple rose located on her left shoulder. Model Sophie Anderton has a rather unique tattoo of a bird of paradise which is linked to a Lotus flower at the small of her back.

While it is true that it is primarily women who choose to get flower tattoos, there are a few men in the celebrity world who have flowers as a part of their body art. Paul Stanley of the rock band Kiss has a small rose tattoo on his right shoulder. Among guitarist Dave Navarro’s numerous tattoos is a single stemmed rose located on his upper right arm. Singer heartthrob Ricky Martin boasts a rose and heart tattoo on his left groin area. Sugar Ray front man, Mark McGrath, has a wide assortment of tattoos including a blue rose on his left forearm.

It seems that more famous people are getting new tattoos everyday and many of these will most likely include some sort of flower tattoos. All of these tattoos will have stories behind them as to why they were chosen. Whether or not these stories will ever be shared with the public is anyone’s guess. However, in looking at what is known about the famous people who get these tattoos, it is sometimes fun to come up with fantasy stories as to why a certain celebrity chose a particular tattoo. It may be interesting to see how closely these stories are to reality.
